In November of 2005, Fenwick returned to writing and performing music after a ten year hiatus from the Boston music scene. His time away from playing music regularly allowed him the space and commitment to start a family and gain experiences worthy of song. In the 2006/2007 winter, and at the age 40, Fenwick is to release his very first solo album titled “Bullies of B Street”. It’s a collection of songs that firmly displays where he is and how he got here.
The album material definitely focuses on social responsibility with additional topics like love, happiness and a few songs that are decidedly anti-happy. While there are some serious songs like 11:59, most are aimed at orienting someone to a particular topic of concern and at the same time hatching some hope and optimism about grave situations or crisis. After cutting his teeth with bands like the Ian Fenwick Project and the Derailers in the late 80 and early 90s, Fenwick has been creating solo performer music, Vocals accompanied by acoustic guitar. While mostly performing solo these days he is occasionally joined by family members in shows. “It stripped down a bit” he says of his new brand of song. Much simpler from what my friends and fans might expect from me.
Fenwick, his wife Ursula (a former Derailer and accomplished session singer) and their two children, Will & Jack live just outside of Boston MA. Together they run Café Blue Hills, a monthly acoustic music concert venue in Milton MA that aims to bring original music by local artists to their community and raise awareness and funds to support worthy charities. All are welcome to this listening room on the second Saturday of every month from Octobber through May. The venue is located at First Parish in Milton, 535 Canton Avenue, Milton, Massachusetts.
